Emroce

Emroce is an ethical fashion company founded by New Zealander Emma Churchill. Emroce suits are made from Econyl Lycra. Fishing nets and other pre-and post-consumer nylon waste are collected and transformed into functional swim and activewear fabric. Emma creates and adapts her designs in such a way that there is zero waste when it comes to the fabric used. Rather than just cutting away, the designer carefully maps out the fabric so that interlocking shapes can be cut from it. In case there are any remaining off-cuts they are used in the making of new designs to create unique pieces; thus bringing you zero waste and eco-conscious swimwear.

Deco Del Mar is Emroce’s first collection and takes inspiration from the shapes of Art Deco. Bold geometric shapes and intense colors, pairing navy with black in suits designed to withstand the surf. The collection is very practical for any and all water sports: paddle boarding, surfing, or wakeboarding. Specifically designed for the waves, each and every style offers comfort and flexibility and the fabric is quick drying. You can feel confident that everything stays in place. Each garment is of high quality, built to last.

The collection is handmade with love in Italy and all designs are stripped to their basic necessities as all efforts are focused on achieving the perfect fit and creating a completely functional garment.

Emroce creates inspirational designs to encourage change, as our current production and consumption models are too damaging to our health and our planet. The power for change is in the hands of the consumer. Through the things we buy, we decide who, what, where, when and how our products are made. So, Emroce´s message is simple: “Please consume wisely.”

“A new type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move to higher levels” -Albert Einstein

Based: Lago di Como, Italy.

Ships to: Worldwide.

Products: Zero waste swimwear for women and children. Built to be surfed in.

Mission: Inspiring the world to encourage ethical consumption

Vision: To prove that this method of working zero waste is economically and environmentally viable. I would love a fast fashion company to try it out. It would be better for the environment if fast fashion didn't happen at all but in the meantime it'd be good if 30% of their fabric wasn't binned just in the cutting process. Because it's much faster to cut (and often sew) a zero waste garment, money is saved in wages. Money is also saved in fabric costs so ideally that money could go to giving more of a fair wage to the workers.

My vision for emroce itself is to stay small, keep the overheads low and find that balance between sales and production where I can sell my swimwear for the same price as any other large surf brand.
