Iamoo produces minimalist essentials and stationary (such as laptop sleeves, pencil cases, key chains, card holders, note books etc.) from waste, recycled materials and upcycled raw materials. Many people might have a negative connotation with waste and upcycled materials, but iamoo´s products are beautiful, stylish and functional. Each product has their own story and are made by skilled people, locally in The Netherlands. Iamoo wants to inspire others by being honest and transparent. Sustainability, social entrepreneurship and local production is the new standard!
Iamoo´s designs can be directly linked to what they stand for. No-nonsense design, functional, stylish with a personal touch of happiness. Iamoo is a contraction of "I am made out of ...". "I am" in the name has several meanings. It stands for the product with its own story. For every person, beautiful in different ways, for the standards and values that each individual stands for, for positive sustainable inspiration. "Made out of" stands for the various sustainable materials they work with, which are leading in the designs. Each with their own unique composition, origin and story. The iamoo logo is therefore not only the signature of the brand, but also that of the product, the material, the designer, the maker and the carrier. The orange detail, which is repeated everywhere, stands for the Dutch roots, but also for fun and the creativity that Iamoo wants to impart to others in daily life.
Less is essential to reduce our CO2 footprint. That is why less is a common concept in Iamoo´s business operations. For example, all materials are reused or recycled and come from close by, the designs are timeless and not seasonal and production takes place in the Netherlands. By using waste and recycled/upcycled materials many environmental impacts that occur in the early stages of production are avoided. Think of the cultivation of plant fibers or the extraction of raw materials such as crude oil, from which synthetic fibers are made. These production phases are very resource intensive. The consumption of water, energy and chemicals, but also the discharge of waste water and the emission of dirty air have a major impact on the environment and the people who work and live there.
Fair and quality products that are made from fair and quality materials. To achieve this, five basic principles in product development and production are applied:
Recycled and upcycled materials. The bags, accessories and stationary are made from waste, recycled and upcycled materials. The raw materials are the basis of every design. The origin, structure, availability and appearance are always decisive in the design. This makes it possible to develop unique products, each with its own story. The possibilities are endless.
Transparency & Education. Iamoo is transparent about where their materials come from and why they have chosen certain materials. For various reasons, unfortunately it’s not yet possible to produce everything 100% sustainable, circular or from recycled materials. That’s why transparency is key. Per product it is shown what the different parts are made of and what they do to optimize the production process.
Reduce CO2 emissions. Iamoo is consciously working to reduce their CO2 footprint. This is reflected in local productions and material selection. Iamoo also reduces their footprint by expediting packages plastic-free and CO2 neutral, by banking with Triodos and by planting new trees.
Sustainable design. When designing their products, the start is the principle that sustainability is the new standard. Stylish, high-quality, durable design that makes everyday life easier and protects valuables. The designs are as circular as possible, meaning that the products have a longer lifespan due to functionality and quality of production. In addition, the designs are designed in such a way that as little cutting waste as possible is created. The cutting waste that is left over is used for zippers, key rings and small details on the bags and accessories. Labels, zippers and lining are also produced in the right qualitative way.
Local & social. Iamoo products are made locally and in a socially responsible way. Good working conditions, craftsmanship, fair wages are assured. By producing locally CO2 emissions are also significantly reduced. One of the pillars of working at Iamoo is that it should be fun and by working with people who would normally have difficulties finding a job, Iamoo connects passionate and skilled people to their company. A win-win situation for everyone.
Innovation is an essential part of sustainable entrepreneurship. There is always room for improvement and Iamoo has identified a number of key points that they work on every day:

The materials that Iamoo works with are carefully selected based on their sustainability and impact on our planet:
VEGAN LEATHER MADE FROM FRUIT The guys from Fruitleather Rotterdam have transformed leftover fruit into beautiful, leather-like material. With their vision, they not only want to spread awareness about food waste, but also show that waste can be used in a positive way. The material is sustainable, animal-friendly, consists of 100% fruit waste, made and produced in the Netherlands.
Characteristics: Sustainable and animal-friendly. The material is made from 100% leftover fruit (the backing is (currently) a synthetic base).
RECYCLED LEATHER MADE FROM LEATHER WASTE The recycled leather is made from recycled material from leather waste from shoe and bag productions. Iamoo collected, ground and re-bound the waste residues with water and natural binders. Instead of burning it, this material has been repurposed in a different form. The material feels rubbery and has a nice matte appearance. The colored top layer is made of a very thin PU layer on 100% water base. We consciously chose this material, even though it comes from Italy. Italy is the land of fashion and many luxury brands produce here, so there is also a lot of waste. For Iamoo, this recycled material, made from waste from Europe, is a better alternative than, for example, real leather or vegan bags made of PU plastic from the Far East.
Characteristics: 55% waste leather 35% fats and natural latex 10% water. Produced in Southern Europe. Provided with the Global Recycled Standard quality mark. Tested on the basis of REACH according to EU directives.
VEGAN IMITATION LEATHER FROM RECYCLED PET BOTTLES. This beautiful, soft and high-quality vegan imitation leather is made from 55% recycled PET bottles and 45% water-based PU. The flexible fabric ensures a lot of wearing comfort. The recycled vegan leather has been tested by bureau Veritas and is produced in Southern Europe.
Characteristics: 100% vegan. Tested for Veritas agency. 55% recycled PET bottles 45% water-based PU. Free of DMF, PAH and Formaldehyde.
FABRIC FROM WASTE COTTON. The fabrics are made from recycled cotton yarn, from cutting waste from productions or actually worn textiles. These recycled cotton yarns are always mixed with new cotton yarn (40%), which is necessary for the binding and strength of the fabric.
Characteristics: Made from Recover yarn. No chemicals used. Virtually no CO2 consumption. No water used. Produced in Southern Europe. Provided with the Global Recycled Standard quality mark. Tested on the basis of REACH according to EU directives.
LINING MADE FROM RECYCLED PET BOTTLES. The lining is made from 100% recycled PET bottles and produced in Southern Europe.
Characteristics: Made from Recover yarn. No chemicals used. Virtually no CO2 consumptio.n No water used. Produced in South Europe. Provided with the Global Recycled Standard quality mark. Vegan
FELT MADE FROM RECYCLED PET BOTTLES. The felt is made from recycled PET bottles.
Characteristics: 100% recycled PET bottles. Produced in Southern Europe. Tested on the basis of REACH according to EU guidelines.
ORGANIC COTTON LABELS. The labels are made of organic cotton and made in the Netherlands. The cotton is made from organically grown seeds on fair trade farms where synthetic pesticides and GMOs have no room. Farmers here received a fair price for their cotton.
Iamoo also uses residual waste from sun blinds and awnings. These materials are cut losses from a production facility in the Netherlands. The material is extremely sturdy, durable and water-repellent. So a shame to throw it away! Other upcycled materials used are the plastics from used inflatables. The material is sturdy, water-resistant and can be used in all kinds of bags and accessories.
Another important and fun fact we’d like to share is about Iamoo´s LOOP notebook, which has a circular design. With the inventive design you are able to refill the notebook and use it again and again. By developing this product Iamoo wants to inspire people to write their own sustainable story. LOOP is made out of recycled leather waste and 100% carbon neutral FCS paper.
